Reading Pictures – Paul Diamond

Lunchtime talk

12.00pm 28 April 2022

Paul Diamond will speak about Mark Adams’ photograph of the site of Hinemihi at the time of the Tarawera eruption, and his own journey to visit Hinemihi in England, and Rauru, another whare whakairo photographed by Adams.

Paul Diamond (Ngāti Hauā, Te Rarawa and Ngāpuhi) is a writer and historian who has worked as the inaugural Curator, Māori at the Alexander Turnbull Library since 2011 and previously as an oral historian and broadcast journalist. He is the author of three pukapuka that range across histories of Māori representation.

This event is part of the Reading Pictures lunchtime talk series. Over the course of Adam Art Gallery’s exhibition Tēnei Ao Tūroa – This Enduring World we paired a speaker with an art work, inviting them to offer their responses by drawing on their particular insights, interests and knowledge.
