Education visits, curriculum building, and tours
As the art gallery of Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, Te Pātaka Toi Adam Art Gallery provides a range of opportunities for teaching and learning.
Our team has knowledge and skills in art history, collection management, exhibition design and curatorial practice. The Gallery is an inspiring site for the development of skills in visual analysis and critical reflection. We are open to all inquiries about using the Gallery as a teaching space and can assist in the development of coursework related to our programme or in delivering curriculum-focused tours.
We offer tours of exhibitions in the Gallery and of the Victoria University Art Collection to groups of five people or more.

Volunteer Programme
Our Volunteer Programme offers a behind-the-scenes perspective of the operation of Te Pātaka Toi Adam Art Gallery. Volunteers work alongside art professionals while gaining practical experience, developing knowledge about art and artists, and meeting others with interest in art. The programme is aimed to nurture those who are interested in a future career in the arts; it is best-suited for students in their 2nd or 3rd year of undergrad study, post-grad study, and any who are pursuing work in the arts.
Volunteers play a vital role in what we do, whether it’s assisting in day-to-day operations, special projects, administrative support, or at public events. We're extremely grateful for the support of our volunteers. In return, we set out to provide a positive, educational, and enriching experience.
How to register
The next registration period will be open November 2026—March 2027. We are looking for volunteers who will be available throughout the full 2027 academic year (summer optional).

Internship
Te Pātaka Toi Adam Art Gallery’s Internship enables a recent graduate, postgraduate student or early-career art professional to work with the Gallery to develop research skills and knowledge relating to collecting, curatorial practice, exhibition making, communications and public programming through their involvement in the planning and delivery of aspects of the Gallery’s work.
The Internship is a paid, fixed-term, part-time position. The total duration of the internship is 400 hours. Although the timeframe for the internship is flexible, ideally the successful applicant will be available for a minimum of three months within the year of the Internship. The successful applicant will be based in the Adam Art Gallery office, working alongside the team, with opportunities to undertake self-directed research as well as a range of activities typical of the Gallery’s workflow.
