Learning

As the art gallery of Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, Te Pātaka Toi Adam Art Gallery provides a range of opportunities for teaching and learning.

Our team has knowledge and skills in art history, collection management, exhibition design and curatorial practice. The Gallery is an inspiring site for the development of skills in visual analysis and critical reflection. We are open to all inquiries about using the Gallery as a teaching space and can assist in the development of coursework related to our programme or in delivering curriculum-focused tours. For more information, contact ann.gale@vuw.ac.nz.

We offer tours of exhibitions in the Gallery and of the Victoria University Art Collection to groups of five people or more. To book a tour, contact ann.gale@vuw.ac.nz.

Volunteer Programme

Adam Art Gallery’s Volunteer Programme is open to current students at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and to anyone interested in learning about our work. It is a great way to supplement formal learning and to meet others who share an interest in art.

As an Adam Art Gallery volunteer, you will gain practical experience relevant to a multitude of career paths and enjoy unique insights into the Gallery operation, including meeting artists, curators and others involved in our programme. In return, you will offer your time to help us deliver our work. This might include working as a gallery attendant; assisting with the promotion of exhibitions; helping with events; and working in the office on a range of administrative tasks.

Students of Victoria University of Wellington can apply their volunteer hours towards the Wellington Plus service and leadership development programme.
