Leon van den Eijkel worked in New Zealand from 1985 up until his death in April 2021. His early work in Wellington was primarily as a designer, but latterly his paintings and sculpture came the fore as his primary focus. An early adopter of new media - his work often utilised light boxes & digitally printed surfaces - he ended up in the last decades of his life as an accomplished maker of large scale sculptures, 2 major pieces being 'Red Cloud Confrontation' commissioned by collector Alan Gibbs for The Farm project and 'The Wellington Urban Forest' familiar to all those entering Wellington from the airport.
