This exhibition catalogue was published in association with the exhibition The Habitat, 2000. 

'Hipkins' images are deserted, as professional architectural photographs are supposed to be. But unlike them, Hipkins' pictures betray a history of occupancy and use. While in somes of Hipkins' images minor elements supposed to sink into the background are now palpably there, in others the visually assertive aspects of architecture have been downplayed. Grand set pieces of campus building, designed to project their formal presence, are obliterated by over or underexposure, their formal clarity lost in a photographic haze.
