Complementing the exhibition Behind Closed Doors held at the Adam Art Gallery from 4 June to 18 December 2011, this publication offers a rare view into the intimate world of private art collecting in and around Wellington, New Zealand.

Well known photographer Neil Pardington presents a series of exquisite images capturing the works of art as they appear in people’s homes. The book also includes text by art writer Lara Strongman and a foreword by Adam Art Gallery Director, Christina Barton.

Barton, curator of the exhibition Behind Closed Doors states, “I have learnt that everyone lives with their collection differently—in a sense a person’s private collection is a reflection of them as a person. I’ve been to places where pieces are hung floor to ceiling on every available space—collecting becomes an obsession for many people.”

Behind Closed Doors will give readers a fascinating insight into the more personal stories that weave works of art into the fabric of peoples’ lives.
